ESME JOHNSON

Hi, I’m Esme and I’m an Art Therapist. I love supporting children and young people, and the unique space that art therapy can offer, especially when using words may feel difficult. I love that art therapy can be playful. I studied at Wimbledon College of Art and later trained to be an art therapist at Queen Margaret University in Edinburgh.

During my training I provided art therapy for children and young people affected by drug and alcohol use in their families, and for adults at an NHS specialist trauma service. Before training to become an art therapist I really enjoyed working in schools as a learning support assistant, supporting children socially and emotionally. I also lead art sessions for refugees, I have always loved how art making can bring people together. I am a yoga teacher too, and I run yoga, art and movement retreats with a focus on connecting with nature and listening to our bodies.

As well as working as an art therapist I love to paint and dance. I really enjoy wild swimming, and being in forests, on Dartmoor and by the sea.
