Jonas Torrance

Hi, my name is Jonas Torrance. I began working in 1991 with the inspirational Sheila Coates, who set up the first-ever autism base within a mainstream school. I have an MA in Dance Movement Psychotherapy, and have been practising as a therapist for 25 years. I am also a clinical supervisor and consultant.

Throughout my career I have worked with autistic and neurodiverse children and young people, as well as with their families. Common issues include anxiety, depression, social isolation, trauma and behavioural challenges. I find that creating a calm and welcoming space is always the first step.

I have a wide experience of working with schools and colleges, and I like to see therapy as a form of creative education. I believe no problem is too small to be unimportant, or too large to be insurmountable.

I have written widely on the subject of autism and therapy, including a chapter in The International Handbook of Play Therapy. My own book Therapeutic Adventures with Autistic Children (Hachette Publishers) is available on Amazon. I look forward to working with you.
