rachel Miller
Rachel is a passionate and experienced mental health nurse and advocate, with over ten years of experience across various sectors, including charity, humanitarian work, public health, the armed forces, and academia. Throughout her career, she has been dedicated to improving the mental health and wellbeing of underserved groups and populations impacted by adversity, especially those impacted by conflict and trauma.
To date, Rachel has worked closely with veterans, military personnel, and frontline humanitarian workers, helping them navigate the challenges of post-trauma recovery and occupational mental health. She has also worked in a consultancy and voluntary capacity in countries such as Zimbabwe, Nepal, and India, where she has helped to develop mental health programs.
Her expertise are supported by a BSc (Hons) in Mental Health Nursing and an MSc in War and Psychiatry, as well as specialist training in areas such as critical incident stress management (CISM), trauma informed practice and mental health and psychosocial support in emergencies; she is also studying for a Diploma in Conflict and Catastrophe Medicine.
Most recently, Rachel has been working as a Senior Lecturer in Mental Health and the "No Health Without Mental Health" pillar lead at the University of Exeter’s Academy of Nursing. She also works as a Research Fellow at the School of Public Health Research, where she contributes to research which aims to create partnerships and generate evidence to address health inequalities.
When not at work, Rachel enjoys yoga, discovering new music, exploring the southwest coastal path, and getting stuck into a creative project.'
